A big thank you to Leonny for the Let's Rock! Elmo toy giveaway! Leonny has won several blog awards and her photography is really good. Let’s Rock! Elmo is just newly launched in Singapore and is retailing at $129.90. The kids are so excited when I took Elmo out from the box. They can't wait to get their hands on it! Let's Rock! Elmo, from Hasbro, is a fun and engaging toy. Elmo tilts his head and laughs and sings. There are 6 different catchy rocking tunes. The toy comes along with a microphone, drumset and tambourine. You can purchase additional Let's Rock! accessories to make the fun last even longer! It also comes installed with 6 "AA" batteries which is rare for other electronic toys! Suitable from 18 month to 4 years old. YX had fun with it too though he's 4 and a half now. It's hilarious watching JE sings along with Elmo and started dancing to the catchy songs. We decided to check out the Smurfs meet & greet at 7pm at Northpoint without high hopes of getting a pass for the photo taking session since it is already 6.15pm when we left the house. We reached at 6.40 and were so lucky to one of the last few (limited to 50 pax) to get a pass! What a Smurf day!

We won ourselves a exclusive, closed-door Smurfs family event at Northpoint Shopping Mall. We along with other registered families get to paint a limited edition smurf figurine and we get to keep it! It was a great family bonding session. After the event, we head over to Swensen for our dinner and YX is the happiest of all cos he gets his ice-cream!

The kids had some fun visiting the PlayDome at the National Museum. The PlayDome is part of the Children's Season 2011 initiative partnered with Playeum, The Play Museum, to create a wonderful child-centered museum experience at level 3. There's a giant Kaleidoscope, Wayang play stage, dressing up as a wayang performer, as well as interaction with a 2 and a half D cinema footage.

YX is 4 years plus now and yet there has been no window grills in the house. Even though we stay on the low floorings, I always fear leaving YX out of my sight. Now that there is another active toddler at home along with a playful boy, we finally got the grills up. 3 rooms and 1 living hall for $880. Next, is the painting of the room. We decided to diy instead and well, though it's tiring, there's also a sense of satisfaction after the job. $99 for two tubs of paint, rollers and painting tray. Next comes the furniture, that is, the wardrobe, super single bedframe and bed, all from Seahouse. That's another $818. Total renovation cost for this room: $1800

Adenoidectomy Surgery

YX had an adenoidectomy surgery to remove his enlarged tonsils and adenoids. I was feeling very emotional, at the same time worried when YX drifted off to sleep under the anaesthesia. I was asked to leave the OT while they grab the child onto the bed and the surgery began. After half an hour or so, we were asked to enter the resting area where YX was there waiting for the anaesthesia to wear off. I saw him vomiting and crying hoarsely for me. He was assured and went back to sleep after he saw me. It was heartbreaking at that point in time seeing him like that. Thank goodness the operation went well and Prof Tan assured us that YX will have a speedy recovery.

We were lucky to be given A class ward as the B wards are full. YX having his dinner.

The boy was still very chirpy, happy with his milo and biscuit snack.

Fasting starts after that.

Changed into the operation gown waiting to go into the op theatre.

Out of the OT in half an hour's time and still under anaesthesia.

In pain and poor kid was so grouchy and frowning away. No smiles until ....

the ice-cream came. However, he barely took two spoons of it when he whimpered and cry in pain again.

YX recovered well and fast. He took ice-cream for the next 2 days. He had to be on soft diet for a week.

YX, you are a very brave boy! We are very proud of you!

Stay strong and healthy! We love you!

Thank you to all my dear friends for your care and concerns. It was a smooth and successful operation and we are very glad to see YX happy and healthy again.

Swelling Adenoid

At 3.45am now and I am still blogging away... and this blog is not a happy one. You may or may not have noticed, but YX has not grown much and he is still wearing his 2 year old clothings despite him coming 4 years old come April 11. YX has been seeing a doctor almost every month over the year, either due to his sensitive nose or repetitive visits to the doctor for his chronic cough. I have been feeling strange as to why he has so much phlegm in his throat and mucus in his nose. At times, I have to help him blow his nose at least 3-5 times a day when he is not even having a flu or cold. Finally, I decided to make an appointment with KKH ENT head, Professor Henry Tan.

After hearing my description of YX's symptons, Prof Tan ordered a x-ray as well as a hearing test for YX. The boy did not pass his hearing test as we were told. This could be due to fluid in his ears and his thick ear wax as old as him. The x-ray showed that YX has a swelling adenoid (part of a "ring" of glandular/lymphoid tissue encircling the back of the throat) that has been obstructing his air passage way. That explains why he had been snoring and sleeping with his mouth open. Poor boy actually has dark eye circles despite him taking afternoon naps and sleeping a minimum of 8-9 hours every night.

Prof Tan said that YX was unable to have any quality sleep due to the swollen adenoid. He advised us to let YX go for a surgery to remove it. The operation is done under general anaesthesia and requires a 2 day admission to the hospital. I asked what will the implication be should we not go ahead with the procedure. His answer was that the kid's growth and learning development would be affected. I had seeked 2nd and 3rd opinion, both from our family doctor as well as YX's pediatrician. Both doctors' answer was to proceed with the surgery. Well, the date has been fixed just after the new year. I am praying that the operation is a success and that YX stays healthy and strong.

Dental Visit

It's been more than a year since YX's 1st visit to the dentist. I had a hard time coaxing him up the chair. Finally after some struggle, he succumbed to our bribe of Kinder Joy after his checkup. (He eventually forgot about it after a great workout at the Health Zone =p) As usual, the dentist is friendly and patient. Healthy set of teeth and no decay and YX got a big Ben 10 sticker as a reward after that.

We were at the "Magical Museum" Open House hosted in conjunction with the opening of a new exhibition - Congo River: Arts of Central Africa. The exhibition explores the artistic tradtions linked by the Congo. There's lots of activities that day such as free ice-cream, goodie bag, storytelling and congo drum performances.

Santa Bubbles Musical

After YX's music class, we head down to City Square Mall for our lunch and to catch the "Santa Bubbles Musical" - a 30 min stage show. There is also a 16 metre tall eco-friendly Santa Christmas Tree at City Green Park outside the Mall. Bubbles will invade the park providing a perfect playtime session for kids at specific timings. Children can also take part in the weekend Santa's Eco-workshops where they can learn to make their own snow globes.

Happy 8 months to JE

Our little princess turns 8 months old. She's our 开心果. I've not been as diligent in noting down her milestones as compared to YX. Her baby journal is still very blank. Well, I'm making some efforts here now. En's progress and milestones for this month are as follow:

Recognize strangers now
2 little pearly whites have sprout out and she's into her second teething stage again.
Started eating porridge and loves to eat banana.
Her sleeping position is just as horrid as her brother's. She loves freefall position most. En loves her bolster and likes to chew on the taggies Grandma helped to sew on it.
She can hold her milk bottle very well.
She likes to drop her pacifier or a toy and wait for me to pass back to her.
Loves peek-a-boos!
Will smile happily when she sees me come back from work and wants me to carry her by making some noise. If I do not, she'll start whimpering and pretend to cry.
She can lunge forward onto the floor from a sitting position and is now in a pre-crawl stage. Rotating 360 degree on the floor is not counted though.

Since we were just nearby at the Science Centre, we decided to go check out the Crocs sale nearby. I got YX his second pair of Crocs since his first Murray clogs. The size was all wrong anyway for the Murray and he often tripped in that pair. Not much of a sale though as there were really very limited designs and sizes.

It's been a long time since we visited Changi Airport and I had always wanted to bring YX to the kiddy rides at Terminal 3. However, to my great disappointment, the kiddy rides are no longer there!! If you know where they are now, please please email me. Muacks!

Gifts from a Magical Teapot at Terminal 3’s Departure Hall where airport visitors can experience hourly light-ups complete with exciting effects, and a chance to win great prizes. At hourly intervals from 7 to 10pm on weekdays and 1 to 10pm on weekends, colourful balls will emerge from the magical teapot. Participants with balls of the winning colour, to be announced after the balls are dispensed, will win attractive prizes such as air tickets, F&B vouchers and more! We won ourselves a jar of candies and a toiletry bag (YX picked two pink balls for us which happened to be the winning color).

There's also a arcade outlet at T3. Our first time to Zone X and we had a 'smashing' good time. Together with me slinging En, we played at the games in Zone X smashing the plastic balls into the screen as well as playing dunking basketball! En was pretty blur though.

Hort Park

We participated in the big draw event held at Hort Park. It's our first visit to the national park which is really a nice and clean gardening hub. I love the big open green space. There are activities like guided tours, talks and workshops for both adults and children. I read from the National Parks site that the Butterfly Garden - HortPark's latest attraction - will open for free from 9am to 11am every last Saturday of each month. We missed it. Next time, perhaps.

YX caught the virus a 2nd time, this time of a different strain! I was worried when the teacher told me of a HFMD case reported that day. Later that night, he developed a fever of 39°C. Once again, JE had to stay with my mum and we have to be separated once again. She had a cough from her brother and poor girl is resisting the nebulizer. I am worried about her and missed her so much during this period.

Day 1: Fever at 39°C. I was praying hard that it's not what I thought it is.

Day 2: Fever persisted ranging from 38.5°C to 39.8°C. Ibuprofen did not seem to be bringing the temperature down at all! Brought him to see our family doctor and confirmed it was HFMD with sore reddish throat and one ulcer spotted on his tonsil. YX was given antiviral medicine and sent home to rest. MC for a week. Needless to say, loss of appetite kicks in!

Day 3: More ulcers and rash on his arms, legs and buttock area. Not much spots on his palm and feet though. Fever is still high hiking up to 40.6°C. Poor boy was in a daze and shivering in cold. My gosh! The amount of Paracetamol and Ibuprofen he had taken..... I feel so sad for him... Can't drink! Can't eat! I had to force feed him.

Day 4: Fever was at the range of 37.6°C to 38°C. It subsided in the late afternoon. The painful ulcers were making him irritable and fussy now. He cried and screamed and vomited (from coughing) with every sip. Yes. He was still having a cough ....

Day 5: Appetite was better but still wince when he drank water.

Day 6: Woke up when I dream feed him his milk. He told me it did not hurt as much now. No more wincing in pain while drinking. Good! He's recovering! Eating better now.

Day 7: No more visible ulcers and the rashes are less visible. He can eat rice now!

A impromptu decision to go on a picnic at Sembawang Park. Daddy was tasked to buy coffee and fried bee hoon while mummy prepared some hard boiled eggs (my favourite!), apples and cakes to bring along. It was a fun outing for us all. En En had avocado puree and tried to eat an apple too. This noti girl also decided to do a mega poop in the park!

The kids learn about the composition and structure of a teapot. They roll the paint on a piece of paper, blower dry them and then tear into pieces. They then stick on the spout and the handle. On the way home from the class, we sang The Teapot song together.

The kids made a photo frame while learning blocks and shape. This is a two week project. They made a frame first followed by a picture of a pufferfish art work. I like this a lot!

We headed to Marina Square for a breakfast at McCafe and we had a pleasant surprise. The staff served us our cappuccino and this is our first time having one so nicely decorated!

After breakfast, I shopped around with JE while daddy brought YX to the indoor playground to play. We then proceeded to Pariss for buffet lunch. YX enjoyed the food spread and was given a treat of ice-cream and marshmallow dipped in chocolate. YX gave his thumbs up!

YX had another bout of fever which lasted from Wed till Mon, a total of 6 days. I was fearing for a 2nd case of HFMD but thank goodness it's not. It's actually a bacteria caused infection kind of fever. The highest was at 40.7 C! I had a cold myself and was feverish for 3 days too followed by YX daddy with fever at 40.2 C on Sat. All 3 of us spent the weekend at home nursing our cold and fever. YX had to take another course of Augmentin. Poor me is unable to get enough rest and have to wake up almost every hourly to check the temperature of the other two and change their towel on the forehead for two nights. My milk supply has dropped tremendously too. I am so dead tired!

As for JE, she is happily staying at her grandma's place. Grandma helped to bring JE for her long overdue vaccinations; 4th month due 5-in-1 and Pneumococcal (one on each thigh) as well as her 2nd oral dose of Rotavirus. She was in pain that night and kept crying. Thank goodness she did not develop any fever. She is 7.7 kg now at 4 months 3 weeks old and at the 91 percentile. As for her height, she's in the 50 percentile at 63cm.

Bought some supplements from iHerb on Sat. Hope these will help to boost YX immune system.

Lapbook - The Hungry Caterpillar

I did this lapbook a long time back way, planning to let YX play with it during a road trip to Malaysia if any. Well, since we are resting so many days, might as well take it out.

There's plenty of activities in this one... and yes... a lot of effort put in too. We did not finish all the activities but YX knows his numbers now. He can even call me on my mobile phone. I've been getting at least 1-2 calls a day from him when I am at work.

Learning the 'B' and the 'C's. Number recognition, days of the week, months, size sorting, coloring, story telling, craft works, tic tac toe.

YX caught the virus! He came home with a fever around 5pm and I only get to know about it when I reached home at night. I had to leave JE with my mum as I can't risk her catching the contagious virus. I am missing her so much!

Day 1 (Fri): Fever at 39.2°C, seen by a GP locum and was diagnosed as viral fever and sent off with Ibuprofen and Paracetamol.

Day 2 (Sat): Even with Ibuprofen, fever hikes up to 40.6°C. We went to KKH A&E and was asked to give him a warm bath there, followed by Diclofenac suppository. YX took urine and blood test as well just to be on the safe side. The doctor gave YX antibiotics as he noticed he had a sore throat.

Day 3 (Sun): Loss of appetite. Noticed that he had one ulcer in his throat and one on his tonsil. By evening, saw two more ulcers appearing. Went to the GP again and confirmed it's HFMD but was just given Leftose Syrup for anti-inflammation. Was asked by the GP to watch out for rash/blisters on his hands/feet/butt.

Day 4 (Mon): Fever subsided. Poor kid couldn't drink or eat. The painful ulcers were making him irritable and fussy now. I had to force him to drink. He cried and screamed with every sip. Realised he was able to take cold drinks better and syringe was an easier way to force some water in him.

Day 5 (Tues): Appetite was better and he asked for milk in the morning. Still in pain but he managed to bear with it and finished up his milk. Guess he was too hungry. Way to go, YX! You were so brave! Ate better without being fussy. Asked for rice but then immediately after saying that, he moaned pitifully, "宇翔嘴巴痛! 不可以吃饭!" I couldn't help laughing when I heard that.

Day 6 (Wed): Appetite was great as he took his milk, had two small slice of bread and asked for Chwee Kuay during lunch. I gave him some of my mixed rice too. Took Koko Crunch with fresh milk for tea break. His ulcers are healing and he was drinking more water. No more wincing in pain while drinking. Yes! YX is on the road to recovery!

Day 7 (Thurs): No more visible ulcers and the boy gets his favourite food... rice! =)

Afternote: Both YX's cousin caught the virus too and had exactly the same symptons. Get well soon, kids. Hugs!!

YX says there are monster in his drawing. Wonder how he thought of that...

"Forest" is a inspiration from the famous artist Wu Guangzhong. Master Wu passed away in late Jun (1919-2010) at age 91. He is recognized at home and abroad as the father of modern Chinese painting, who integrated the Chinese ink and wash technique with western painting methods. It is the last day of school at Star Learners for YX. He will be going to a new school which is nearer to his grandma's. We have to move him again as my mum is helping to take care of her.

YX and his friends just woke up from their afternoon nap. They will be having their tea break after they helped to keep the bedsheets and bed. The kids queued and walked in a orderly manner to the toilet to wash their hands. Everybody finished their bowl of noodles without a fuss. YX then distributed the goodie bags to all his friends.

YX and his buddy. They always 'fight' and play together. The teachers told me they are very good friends. Guess YX is gonna miss his playmate!

Wonder what the kids are chatting about. They look so adorable! Last but not least, a group photo and lots of hugs are not to be forgotten.
